Us Immigration Policy - 3707 Words

United States Immigration Policy Our economic times, international relations, and terrorism have shaped our countries immigration policy. These issues have driven us to pass legislation opening and closing our borders in response to current events. Though not always at the forefront of concern, it has been a constant struggle that has affected the dynamics of our country. Arizona’s recent passing of tough immigration laws aimed at identifying and deporting illegal immigrants has again put immigration at the forefront of American politics. Additionally, it has raised the question of constitutionality and rekindled the flame of State v. Federal power. Chinese immigration may have been at standstill but the need for cheap labor was still there. This lead to an influx of Japanese immigrants to fill the void left by the Chinese work force. This would lead problems as Americans would again resent having their jobs given to immigrants. That compounded with rampant racial conflicts lead to President Roosevelt entering into an agreement with the Japanese government known as the Gentleman’s Agreement of 1907 (Three Decades of Mass Intergration, 1995). Japan agreed not to issue out passports to Japanese citizens wanting to work in the United States and the United States agreed not to segregate the existing Japanese population residing in the United States. Unlike the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, this was not an act but an agreement that was never ratified. Its main purpose was to ease tensions between Japan and the United States. Though it did serve to limit the number of Japanese immigrants coming into the country. Asian immigration into the United States would be dealt another blow in the years to come. Abraham Lincoln, First Debate with Stephen free essay sample

Independence, and insisting that there is no right principle Of action but self- interest. Before proceeding, let me say I think have no prejudice against the Southern people. They are just what we would be in their situation. If slavery did not now exist among them, they would not introduce it. If it did now exist amongst us, we should not instantly give it up. This I believe of the masses North and South. Doubtless there are individuals on both sides, who would not hold slaves under any circumstances; and others who would gladly introduce slavery anew, if it were out of existence. We know that some Southern men do free their slaves, go North, and become tiptop Abolitionists; while some Northern ones go South, and become most cruel slave-masters. When Southern people tell us they are no more responsible for the origin of slavery than we, acknowledge the fact. When it is said that the institution exists, and that it is very difficult to get rid of it, in any satisfactory way, can understand and appreciate the saying. We will write a custom essay sample on Abraham Lincoln, First Debate with Stephen or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I surely will not blame them for not doing what should not know how to do myself. If all earthly power were given me, I should not know what to do, as to the existing institution. My first impulse would be to free all the slaves, and send them to Liberia,-to their own native land. But a moments reflection would convince me, that whatever of high hope, (as I think there is) there may be in this, in the long run, its sudden execution is impossible. If they were all landed there in a day, they would all perish in the next ten days; and there are not surplus shipping and surplus money enough in the world to carry them there in many times ten days. What then? Free them all, and keep them among us as underlings? Is it quite certain that this betters their condition? Think I would not hold one in slavery at any ate; yet the point is not clear enough to me to denounce people upon. What next? Free them, and make them politically and socially our equals? My own feelings will not admit of this; and if mine would, we well know that those of the great mass of white people will not. Whether this feeling accords with justice and sound judgment, is not the sole question, if, indeed, it is any part of it.A universal feeling, whether well or ill-founded, cannot be safely disregarded. We cannot, then, make them equals. It does seem to me that systems of gradual emancipation might be adopted; but for their tardiness in his, will not undertake to judge our brethren of the South. When they remind us of their constitutional rights, I acknowledge them, not grudgingly, but fully and fairly; and would give them any legislation for the reclaiming of their fugitives, which should not, in its stringency, be more likely to carry a free man into slavery, than our ordinary criminal laws are to hang an innocent one.But all this, to my judgment, furnishes no more excuse for permitting slavery to go into our own free territory, than it would for reviving the African slave-trade by law. The law which forbids the bringing of slaves from Africa, ND that which has so long forbid the taking of them to Nebraska, can hardly be distinguished on any moral principle; and the repeal of the former could find quite as plausible excuses as that of the latter. I have reason to know that Judge Douglas knows that I said this. Hint he has the answer here to one of the questions he put to me. I do not mean to allow him to catechist me unless he pays back for it in kind. Will not answer questions one after another, unless he reciprocates; but as he has made this inquiry, and I have answered it before, he has got it without my getting anything in return. He as got my answer on the Fugitive Slave law. Now, gentlemen, I dont want to read at any greater length, but this is the true complexion of all I have ever said in regard to the institution of slavery and the black race. This is the whole of it, and anything that argues me into his idea of perfect social and political equality with the negro, is but a specious and fantastic arrangement of words, by which a man can prove a horse-chestnut to be a chestnut horse. [Laughter. ] I will say here, while upon this subject, that have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States here it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and have no inclination to do so. I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and the black races.

Should Education Be Free Essay Topics?

Should Education Be Free Essay Topics? The United States has one of the highest educational expenditures in the world, yet we rank somewhere near the bottom of the international rankings when it comes to educational standards. These facts seem pretty strange when you think about it, but not many of us realize just how much we pay for all the education we receive. Indeed, even if we had more money and some more business savvy, there are a lot of things that would have to change before the education system of the United States could be fundamentally changed. At this point, the best American education system is one that doesn't use taxpayer dollars. In the absence of such a system, there is no way that our teachers and colleges can raise their standards, and we would just be back to where we were ten years ago. There is no reason to give our teachers incentives or special treatment to get better or keep them from being fired, and the whole of the entire school system would crumble if we fo rced them to do so. That's not how human nature works. Therefore, our higher education system must first be redesigned from top to bottom. The good news is that it really can be done. Because this reform is actually fairly simple, it is important that we take the time to understand exactly what the American system does, and why it can't be improved. At its core, the American education system is built around two things: Test scores and grade inflation. These two things can and do cause problems, because they allow educators to hand out more marks than what is actually necessary to make a student successful and to pass out of high school a student who is in real danger of becoming a dropout or even a criminal. It is the test scores and grade inflation that give teachers a blank check to go overboard with their attempts to make the student excel, which is why students continue to drop out of high school in droves. How to change this system is the ultimate goal of the education reform move ment, which is what should be the main goal of all educational reform. No, the American education system shouldn't be free essay topics; but if we want to put that American dream of equality and opportunity into reality, then we must first use the system that our parents used, and see that this system, at its core, really can do much to reduce student achievement, and should. If we make sure to provide our young people with the tools they need to succeed in life, then the rest will follow, and we will be better off for it.

Introduction to Circuits -Lab Report Essay Example

Introduction to Circuits -Lab Report Paper After completing these parts our aim is to see the operation oscilloscope and analyze simple circuits. Experimental work; In the first part of the experiment we read the colors of given resistors. There were 4 resistors in the kit. Three of them were same because their colors at the right hand side were same an done of them was different. The color of 3 resistors were orange and other one was red so when we looked at the color code table our three resistors were 10. 000 ohm and other resistor was I OHO ohm. After using color table we determined the values of resistors by using altimeter While measuring the values of the resistor by millimeter it is important to not to hold it by two hands since the human body has an effect on it and wrong values can appear thats why we measured them by placing the resistors to board. The results that we obtained are as follows: First resistor = 10 k ohm= 10 000 ohm Second resistor: I C. 23 k Ohm = 10230 Ohm Third resistor= 9. 91 k ohm = 3910 ohm Fourth resistor- 0. 987 k ohm 987 ohm As seen in the results by using millimeter we obtained the values which are very close to actual values. In addition to that A linear circuit is one that has no nonlinear electronic components in it. Examples of linear circuits are small-signal amplifiers, differentiators, and integrators, or any circuit composed exclusively of ideal resistors, capacitors, inductors, pop-amps, and other linear circuit elements. Some examples of circuits and components that operate in a nonlinear way are diodes and transistors These pictures are for the part that we used Math menu and selected addition and subtraction functions from the math menu _ This Picture is for the step that we connected CHI probe to the PROBE COM of the oscilloscope and observed the s,anal by pressing the CHI menu button, We adjusted the amplitude of the output of the signal generator to IV peak to peak. After following these steps we observed the both square and sinusoidal wave forms on the screen. Conclusion As a result in the lab I we became familiar With lab components and how to use them in a proper way such as millimeter, oscilloscope, signal generator and voltage source. We also learned how to connect resistors in series and parallel. In addition to that we observed that there are two ways to measure the value of the resistor. The first way is to connect to the millimeter the second way is calculating its value by using color table according to the colors on the resistors. We learned the structure of the board (which we used for setting the circuit) and using the board with jumps. Beside these information we also learned the structure of the cables which we connected to voltage and signal generator. The red pin leads to positive pole and the black one leads us the ground.
